Tell us about your experience
I have 16 years experience in the field of appearance medicine. I work closely with the plastic surgeons and dermatologists at Tristram Clinic as this ensures the best possible outcome for all patients. I have been involved in training New Zealand doctors and nurses in the art of dermal filler injecting. I regularly attend conferences and workshops to keep up to date with the latest products and best practices.
What type of procedure do you perform most often?
BOTOX® and dermal fillers are the most sought after treatments. I have a special interest in volumizing the aging face and lip augmentation. My work is a form of art and I believe that a person needs to look naturally beautiful, not frozen or overdone.
What do you find most rewarding about your work?
When a patient looks in the mirror after treatment and goes wow! I look amazing! I know they are really happy and their self-confidence increases to a new level. This has to be the best job in the world. Each day I make a difference to a person’s life and that is extremely rewarding.
What do you consider to be the best advance in appearance medicine since you started in this field?
It would have to be BOTOX® and the new generation dermal fillers. How I treated aging 16 years ago is very different to today. With BOTOX® I can reduce the early signs of aging and with the new generation dermal fillers I can volumize the aging face and add some youthful curves and sculpture the face. These new products and techniques are extremely exciting.
What is the most common misconception about these types of treatments?
That you end up looking frozen! I believe that appearance medicine is truly an art. I know that I’ve done a good job when a person looks natural and gorgeous and they don’t look as though they’ve had any type of enhancement.
